ABOUT
Founded in 2012, Glefe Youth Ghana (Formally YOUNET Ghana) is a network of young people and vulnerable groups working with their communities to create positive, equitable, and sustainable change. We are committed to creating a social response platform where young people, vulnerable groups, and deprived communities can gain the ability, authority, and agency to make decisions and implement change in their lives and the lives of other people, including women, children and persons with disabilities.
Glefe is a small village in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is a fishing community, which has difficulties with issues of sanitation, education, and employment opportunities. Glefe Youth Ghana is a community created and community run organization dedicated to community advancement.
OUR STORY
Here at Glefe Youth Ghana, we’re committed to investing in our community and utilize our resources in order to further achieve our cause. Since 2012, we’ve been supporting our community members in a variety of ways and measuring our success not by monetary size, but by more qualitative measurements such as the scale and effectiveness of our efforts. Just imagine what we can achieve together!

WHAT WE DO
Glefe Youth Ghana is in the business of changing and shaping lives. The work we do at our Non-Profit Organization is aimed at providing a holistic approach to solving some of our society’s biggest challenges. We make sure our partners are empowered by creating opportunities for individuals and communities.
GLEFE LITERACY CLASS FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL CHILDREN
This project aims at promoting literacy, vocational, and environmental skills among out-of-school children between the ages of 4 and 15 years in the Glefe community so that they can become responsible Ghanaian Youth.
Literacy skills, even among Ghanaian children in basic schools, are disappointingly low as only 2 out 5 children in public basic schools can read meaningfully. We provide free books, pencils, and fun learning games. Children do not need to wear school uniforms to learn to read at our Centre. Hither to, these children would be spending their time at the beach and at refuse dump sites collecting scraps. Glefe, an urban poor and deprived community in Accra has no public schools and many parents cannot afford private school education.
You too can help these children move on to mainstream education or learn a vocation by supporting us. We need learning materials, volunteer teachers, office equipment, food for the children, money to build a washroom for the children.
A reading nation is a winning nation!
YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME
This programme targets young people between the ages of 15 and 35. Our aim is to empower them to take active part in national processes towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, and to revive the spirit of youth volunteerism and civic engagement as a necessary tool for community and national development.
“2030 is important to us just as it is to the world. By 2030 the world, through the United Nations have outlines for itself 17 Goals called the Sustainable Development Goals that it wants to achieve. We strongly identify with these goals, specifically goals 4, 5 ,6 and 17. We want to celebrate with the world by 2030 as we aim at achieving these goals in our very own community Glefe.”

FAMILY EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES
Groups made up of very low income parents who have children with various needs. A primary focus is for caregivers of children with disabilities. The family empowerment programmes hope to bring these parents together through a common objective: to improve their current situation through active participation in the community.
